HCSO Investigating Homicide in Tampa

Update April 20, 2023: The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested Dewayne Gallishaw Jr., the suspect in the April 19, 2023, shooting death of a man at The Palm at Sand Lake, an apartment complex in Tampa. 

"Now that this suspect is in custody, this case can go through the judicial system," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "The perpetrator now faces the consequences of his despicable actions. We hope this will bring some sense of closure and healing for the victim's family."

Gallishaw Jr. was booked into the Orient Road Jail and is facing charges of:

  • First Degree Murder with a Firearm
  • Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon
  • Attempted First Degree Murder

ORIGINAL RELEASE: The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide at the Palms at Sand Lake in Tampa, FL. On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at 7:25 p.m., HCSO responded to Marsh Harbor Place for a 911 call with reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, teamHCSO deputies found two victims with apparent gunshot wounds. One was transferred to AdventHealth with non-life-threatening injuries and one that was sent to TGH where he was later pronounced dead. 

Through the course of the investigation, deputies determined there was an altercation inside the apartment and at some point, shots were fired. 

One of the three people inside the home was fatally shot, and another woman in an adjacent apartment sustained an injury when a bullet struck her foot. The innocent bystander is in her mid-70s. The deceased victim is in his mid-20s.

"There is never a reason for an argument to turn deadly," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "teamHCSO will not tolerate gun violence and will work to hold those accountable for this heartbreaking tragedy."

HCSO believes everyone connected to this incident is accounted for. Detectives are currently conducting interviews and analyzing the scene for evidence.
