Major Stephen Hoopes is the Division Commander for the Homeland Security Division. He is a native Floridian and received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from the University of Florida in 2006.
Major Hoopes began his career with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in 2007 as a patrol deputy assigned to District I. He spent time as a field training deputy and street crimes deputy, prior to his promotion to the rank of detective. In 2017, Major Hoopes was promoted to a supervisory role and has served in the Department of Patrol Services, the Special Investigations Division, and the Homeland Security Division. Major Hoopes also previously served as a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team for ten years.
He and his wife Jenny have two young children.
