The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is currently on the scene of an assisted living facility where we are actively rescuing residents.
This morning, at approximately 7:05 a.m., our Communications Center received a call after reports of residents trapped in The Great American Assisted Living Facility at 11722 North 17th Street in Tampa.
Once HCSO deputies arrived on the scene, they found residents in waste deep water and many who were wheelchair-bound. We have rescued 135 individuals from the assisted living facility.
"In situations like this, every second counts. I'm incredibly proud of our deputies, who acted quickly and with compassion to ensure the safety of some of our community's most vulnerable residents," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We're committed to doing whatever it takes to protect those in need following the destruction we are seeing from Hurricane Milton."
Any further information on these rescue efforts will be released by the Public Affairs Office.
