Special Investigations Division

Major Chris Baumann is the Commander of the Special Investigations Division of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

A lifelong Tampa resident, he joined HCSO in 1998 and has served as a Deputy, Field Training Officer, and Detective in Narcotics and Internal Affairs.

His supervisory career includes leadership roles in Patrol Districts I–IV, Homicide, Jail Division III, Court Operations, and Forensic and Support Services.

In 2007, Major Baumann received the HCSO Silver Cross Award and was named Florida Narcotics Officer of the Year after being wounded in the line of duty.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Saint Leo University and a Master of Science in Criminology from the University of Louisville.

A graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Police Executive Leadership Program and Administrative Officers Course, he is also an FAA-licensed pilot.

Major Baumann is married and has one son.
