Juveniles in custody following attempted robbery

Around 11:20 a.m. on March 10, 2020, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received two different calls of an attempted robbery -- purse-snatching -- from outside of the Citrus Park Mall.

Four juveniles related to both incidents fled the scene in a white SUV. Mall security was able to provide a description of the vehicle. A deputy in the area recognized the white SUV. That deputy turned on his lights, and the juveniles immediately sped up, fleeing east on Gunn Highway.

While trying to turn south on Nixon Road, the white SUV took an improper wide turn, as another victim, in a silver SUV was trying to turn west on Gunn Highway. The juveniles' car crashed into the silver SUV.

Following the crash, all four juveniles were apprehended and taken into custody without incident. They were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital as a precautionary measure. The victim in the silver SUV did not need medical attention. It was later learned that the white SUV was stolen from out of Orange County.

All four juveniles are charged with Attempted Robbery. Three of the four juveniles are also charged with Grand Theft Auto.

This is an active investigation. No further details will be released at this time.
