ORIGINAL RELEASE:

June 6, 2021 - An adult male suspect is in custody following a shooting that took place on the 15000 block of Countrybrook Street in Tampa earlier this afternoon.

Just before 1:00 p.m. on June 6, 2021, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Countrybrook Street to conduct a welfare check on a juvenile. Upon arrival, deputies heard gunshots. A deputy's vehicle was later struck by gunfire, but no deputies were injured during the course of the incident. Deputies also did not return fire.

When deputies could not make contact with the juvenile or the suspect, they requested SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) to be activated. However, the callouts were soon canceled when deputies came into contact with both the juvenile and suspect. The suspect was taken into custody. The juvenile did not suffer any injuries.

The Bomb Disposal Team (BDT) was also activated after the suspect alluded to possible suspicious devices inside the home. BDT cleared the home and following further investigation, no suspicious devices were located inside the residence.

This remains an active investigation, and no other details are available at this time. Any additional information will be sent in a press release through the HCSO Public Affairs Office.
