The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a traffic safety subgrant in the amount of $100,000.00 by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for Teen Driver Education and Enforcement Operation.
The awarded funds support overtime for education and/or relative enforcement activities for deputies. The purpose of this program is to educate teen drivers about roadway safety and conduct high visibility operations in an effort to decrease crashes involving teens that occur within Hillsborough County.
According to the Florida Department of Transportation, Fiscal Year 2022 Highway Safety Matrix, Hillsborough County is ranked in the top 25% at number 3 for priority area Teen Drivers for serious injuries or fatalities during 2015-2019. The contract was executed on November 10, 2021 and the program will run through September 30, 2022.
