HCSO Arrests Convicted Felon with Multiple Firearms

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested 33-year-old Edward Evans of Riverview after he fled from deputies on Monday afternoon.

Deputies received information that Evans, who was wanted on multiple warrant charges, was seen leaving a gas station near Gibsonton Drive and New East Bay Road on April 11. After picking up a child at Ippolito Elementary, teamHCSO attempted to conduct a traffic stop when Evans fled. Aviation and K9 units tracked the suspect, monitoring until he stopped in the 8800 block of Millpoint Road. Evans pulled into a driveway, exited his car, and ran along a ditch before attempting to hide in a nearby neighborhood. He tried to break into a resident's home and camper but was scared off after the homeowner fired a warning shot.

Uninjured, Evans finally surrendered, and deputies took him into custody without further incident. After searching the area, teamHCSO discovered a stolen nine-millimeter semi-automatic gun, two holsters, and multiple rounds of ammunition.

"This suspect put innocent lives in jeopardy," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "His actions were careless, and I'm grateful the child inside the car was not injured. This man is a nine-time convicted felon with multiple firearms in his possession, and thanks to comprehensive measures taken by teamHCSO, he is no longer a threat to this community."

Evans faces charges of probation violation, aggravated child abuse, battery, possession of cocaine, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and driving while license revoked.

Further charges may be forthcoming. This investigation is ongoing, and the Public Affairs Office will release any additional information.
