Update: Deputy Injured by Suspect Attempting to Evade Arrest

Update: January 24, 2025. 6:40 p.m.

On January 24, 2025, at 1:07 p.m., deputies arrived at an RV park located at 9102 Williams Road in Tampa to find a suspect involved in an aggravated battery.

To evade arrest, Logan Williams, 27, entered a vehicle with his mother, Meriam Williams, 62. He drove at a high rate of speed, first striking a citizen's vehicle and then intentionally ramming an HCSO patrol car.

The suspect fled the scene on foot but was arrested shortly afterward.

Deputy Stevie Hackett and an HCSO civilian employee, who was riding along with the deputy, were both transported to TGH. They are both in stable condition.

Deputy Hackett has been with HCSO for two years and two months.


Logan Williams is facing the following charges:

  • Aggravated Battery - Great Bodily Harm or Deadly Weapon Victim Over 65
  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
  • Battery
  • Driving Under the Influence
  • Driving Under the Influence with Property Damage or Personal Injury
  • Attempted Murder in the Second Degree of a Law Enforcement Officer with a Weapon
  • Attempted Murder in the Second Degree with a Weapon
  • Resisting Officer Without Violence (x3)
  • Aggravated Fleeing to Elude
  • Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage

Meriam Williams faces one charge of Resisting Officer Without Violence.

"I am incredibly proud of the determination and courage displayed by our deputy during this dangerous situation. Despite being intentionally targeted, she remained focused and ensured that this dangerous criminal was arrested, protecting our community from further harm," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "This incident highlights the risks our deputies face every day. A dangerous individual is now off the streets thanks to their quick actions."

The Public Affairs Office will provide Logan Williams' booking photo when it becomes available.

A suspect is in custody and facing multiple charges after intentionally striking a Hillsborough County deputy with his vehicle in an attempt to avoid arrest.

On January 24, 2025, deputies arrived at an RV park at 9102 Williams Road in Tampa to locate a suspect involved in an aggravated battery. In an effort to evade arrest, the suspect entered a vehicle and intentionally struck a deputy who was inside her patrol car. The suspect then fled the scene on foot but was arrested shortly afterward.

This is an active investigation; any update will come from the Public Affairs Office.
