Wimauma shooting investigation

Just before 7:00 p.m. on February 19, 2020, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received multiple 911 calls in reference to a shooting on the 500 block of 9th Street in Wimauma. 
 
Within 10 minutes, deputies arrived at the scene. Upon their arrival, deputies found a male inside the residence who had suffered upper body trauma. EMS was called to the scene. However, the 17-year-old male had succumbed to his injuries. 
 
"This is yet another tragic situation that has taken the life of a young person far too soon," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "If you have any information, please call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Any tip could be the one that solves this case."  
 
Detectives continue to interview neighbors and those who witnessed the shooting. This remains an active investigation.
