Riverview, FL

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is monitoring planned demonstrations throughout the area and advising drivers to stay alert for potential road closures.

A protest is planned for 5 p.m. today, June 2, near the intersection of U.S. 301 and Big Bend Road in the Riverview area. In an effort to keep both protesters and drivers safe, portions of the roadway surrounding that area maybe closed to traffic for several hours. There are no plans to close surrounding interstates.

"We are asking drivers to find alternative routes prior to beginning their evening commute and to drive with caution through the area of U.S. 301 and Big Bend Road in anticipation of potential road closures," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We want to create a safe environment for everyone, both protesters and motorists."

HCSO will post any updated traffic alerts on its Twitter account, @HCSOSheriff, throughout the evening to keep everyone informed of additional road closures.
