The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an inmate.
Liam Thomas, 27, an inmate at the Orient Road Jail, was discovered unresponsive by staff at 6:48 p.m. on September 21, 2026, and was transported to Tampa General Hospital.
He had been receiving care at the hospital until he was pronounced deceased at 1:27 a.m. on September 27, 2026. Preliminarily, it appears that Thomas' injuries were self-inflicted.
The Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause of death. Next of kin was notified of his death.
The Public Affairs Office will release any further updates.
