Operation Summer's End

Over Labor Day weekend, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office made 297 stops on roads and waterways to safeguard our community from impaired driving and help everyone enjoy a safe holiday weekend.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is proud to announce the final results of "Operation Summer's End," a joint-agency enforcement initiative focused on addressing DUI (Driving Under the Influence) and BUI (Boating Under the Influence) offenses over Labor Day Weekend.

In collaboration with the Tampa Police Department, USF Police, and the Florida Highway Patrol, HCSO focused its efforts on ensuring the safety of our community members throughout the holiday weekend.

"Our deputies' commitment and efforts this weekend undoubtedly made a difference by keeping our community safe. Each arrest of an impaired driver or boater is a step toward saving lives," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Operating any vehicle, whether on land or water, while under the influence endangers yourself and everyone nearby. We will not accept this dangerous behavior and will remain committed to preventing these reckless actions."

The following are the totals for HCSO's 'Operation Summer's End' enforcement:

DUI:

  • Traffic Stops: 208
  • Citations: 12
  • Warnings: 196
  • DUI Arrests: 40

BUI:

  • Vessel Stops: 89
  • Safety Inspections: 89
  • Citations: 16
  • Warnings: 81
  • BUI Arrests: 1
