Law Enforcement Crack Down on Aggressive Driving

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol have teamed up to crack down on aggressive driving.

On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, a joint operation was conducted on I-75 and I-4 to target drivers that were violating Florida’s Move Over Law, speeding and driving aggressively.

Since January 1, 2020, 38 people have lost their lives in vehicle collisions on our roadways.

Throughout September 2020, four Hillsborough County teens died in traffic crashes that could have been prevented.

"In our Tampa Bay community, we are still seeing too many young adults - new drivers - being killed because they are recklessly and aggressively driving," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "As parents, let's have that conversation and get them to slow down, pay attention, and save their lives."

In order to crack down on aggressive driving, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has acquired 11 unmarked Dodge Challengers and five unmarked Chevy Camaros to increase our traffic enforcement.

Those new vehicles were used in Wednesday’s operation. As a result, 319 traffic stops were made, 100 citations issued and 220 warnings written.

"Operations like this are extremely important. We hope it modifies individuals driving patterns so they don't hurt themselves or someone else," said Sheriff Chronister.
