The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a student for bringing a firearm on campus at Strawberry Crest High School.
On March 9, 2026, at 1:01 p.m., two students were separated following a fight. Eddy Martinez Pedro, 15, was one of the students involved in the incident, and he fled on foot after a school administrator took his backpack. A firearm fell out of his pants as he fled, and he picked it up and left the school grounds.
When deputies arrived, they located Martinez Pedro with school security near the 13300 block of East US-92 in Dover. Deputies were able to recover the firearm underneath a deck nearby.
Martinez Pedro has been charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm on School Property
- Minor in Possession of a Firearm
- Carrying Concealed Firearm
- Disrupting School Campus or Function
"School security and our deputies responded quickly to stop a situation that could have put others' lives at risk," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Weapons have no place on a school campus, and we will always take immediate action when the safety of students and staff is threatened. We encourage people to continue speaking up and reporting suspicious activity."
This remains an active investigation, and the Public Affairs Office will provide any updates as they become available.
