The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an Apollo Beach man for a murder in Riverview earlier this month.

Through investigative means, detectives were able to identify the suspect in the May 10, 2023, fatal shooting case in Riverview as Tyler Harnage, 18, of Apollo Beach. On May 23, 2023, a warrant was obtained for Harnage for 3rd Degree Murder Firearm-Great Bodily Harm/Death. That same day, Tyler Harnage, accompanied by his attorney, turned himself into Orient Road Jail without incident.

"I commend the hard work of the detectives who worked tirelessly to solve the case and find the suspect responsible for not only the death of another individual but putting the lives of others in danger through his careless and violent ways," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "He did the right thing in turning himself in to face the consequences of his actions."

This case remains active and ongoing. Any updates will be released by the Public Affairs Office.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances that left one person dead following a shooting in a Riverview.

On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Wawa at the corner of US Hwy 301 and Gibsonton Drive after a report of shots fired.

Once on scene, HCSO deputies and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue located an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased.The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

“I am upset with the lack of regard shown for human life in this case,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We are committed to bringing this suspect to justice.”

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case, and the Public Affairs Office will release any additional details.

Assistant Chief Communications Officer Phil Martello is at the scene and will provide an update at 11:30 p.m.
