If there's one thing Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies hate more than pirate invaders, it's underage drinking. As the Gasparilla season kicks off this week, Sheriff Chad Chronister is issuing a public service announcement (PSA) reminding parade goers who are under 21 to follow the law and avoid consuming alcohol.
"Anyone underage caught with a bottle of rum will face the consequences. There is zero tolerance when it comes to underage drinking at Gasparilla," said Sheriff Chronister in a video message released on social media Tuesday morning, January 14. "So remember, don't touch the whisky. It's too risky."
HCSO is dedicating hundreds of deputies to Gasparilla safety this year from its patrol, marine, and aviation units, among others.
