The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest following an attempted bank robbery at a Wells Fargo on September 6, 2023.
Xavier Wagner, 17, was taken into custody by HCSO deputies on September 13, 2023. Detectives located Wagner near a public storage unit east of the Wells Fargo. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center. Wagner is currently facing a felony charge for Robbery While Wearing a Mask.
"I commend our deputies and investigators for their swift and professional response in apprehending this attempted bank robber," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "This incident serves as a poignant reminder that youth can be swayed down perilous paths, and it's our duty to steer them towards a brighter future. Our commitment to justice and community remains unfaltering, even when dealing with the young and misguided."

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted bank robbery at a Wells Fargo in Tampa.
On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 2:17 p.m., a suspect entered the Wells Fargo Bank located at 6298 West Waters Avenue. The suspect approached one of the tellers and passed a note claiming he had a gun and demanded money. The suspect proceeded to flee the bank on foot in an unknown direction.
"Attempting to rob a bank is not just a crime, it's a breach of the trust that holds our community together,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We, as law enforcement, are entrusted with the duty to protect and serve, and we take that responsibility seriously. This criminal will be brought to justice and face the consequences of their actions.”
