Grinch arrested for package theft in Riverview

A woman is facing charges after getting caught on camera stealing a package off the porch of a Riverview home.

At 1:38 p.m. on Monday, October 19, deputies responded to a home on the 11000 block of Green Harvest Drive regarding an in-progress theft. A Good Samaritan reported seeing a suspect removing a package from the porch of a nearby home.

When deputies responded to the area, Heather Williams, 31, fled on foot after seeing the marked patrol vehicle. She changed her shirt in an attempt to conceal her identity but was located and arrested. The stolen package was recovered and returned. Williams is facing charges of trespassing, petit theft and loitering and prowling. She will be booked into the Orient Road Jail.

Just hours before her arrest, Sheriff Chad Chronister announced the launch of Operation Pinch-A-Grinch, a service that will allow Hillsborough County residents to have their online orders shipped directly to HCSO's District 3 and District 5 Offices from November 9 through December 21, 2020, during the busy holiday shopping season.

"Online shopping will continue to pick up as we head into the holiday season, and unfortunately, there are Grinches out there who plan to do their shopping at your doorsteps," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "This is a perfect example of why we are launching Operation Pinch-A-Grinch. The service will provide residents with a safe and secure place to have their items delivered until they are able to pick them up at their own convenience."
