The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a student at Shields Middle School in Ruskin for bringing a knife onto school grounds.
On April 11, 2025, school administrators received a tip from an anonymous source regarding a student possibly in possession of a weapon.
An administrative search was conducted, during which the school principal located a fixed-blade knife measuring 3 1/4 inches inside the student's backpack.
The student, Erik Daniel, 13, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Weapon on School Property.
“There is absolutely no place for weapons on our school campuses,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Thanks to the anonymous tip and the quick action of school staff, a potentially dangerous situation was prevented. We encourage students to speak up if they see something suspicious. It can make all the difference.”
This is an active investigation. Any updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.
