On April 5, 2025, at 1:22 a.m., HCSO's Communications Center received a call reporting a female had accidentally shot herself at a residence located in the 11800 block of Dumaine Valley Road in Riverview.
When deputies arrived on scene, they made contact with Leroyce Durham, 43, who directed them to the adult female victim who had a gunshot wound to her lower back. She was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition. During the investigation, our detectives determined that Durham shot the victim following an altercation that evening.
Durham was taken into custody without incident and is facing the following charges:

- Attempted Murder in the Second Degree Firearm - Great Bodily Harm
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm
"This tragic incident highlights just how quickly lives can be changed by violence," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "No one should ever fear for their life in their own home. I commend our deputies and detectives for acting quickly to arrest the suspect and begin the process of seeking justice for the victim."
This remains an active investigation. Any further updates will be provided by the Public Affairs Office.
