Ahead of New Year's Eve, Sheriff Chad Chronister has issued a public service announcement (PSA) reminding residents to celebrate responsibly. The video message was posted on social media Tuesday morning to better reach the public.
"Let’s welcome another year with love and happiness, not a DUI," said Sheriff Chronister. "Plan a ride in advance, whether it’s with a designated driver or a ride sharing service."
In addition, Sheriff Chronister advised partygoers to be prepared for an emergency situation by charging their phones in advance. Having a full charged mobile device allows people to stay connected with friends if they get separated at crowded celebrations and to call law enforcement if needed.
Residents are also asked to keep the following NYE safety tips in mind:
- Stay hydrated by alternating alcoholic drinks with water.
- Be mindful of your surroundings and anything or anyone suspicious. If you see something, say something!
- If someone appears intoxicated, keep them from driving. Don’t let them leave with someone they do not know.

Sheriff Chronister is also reminding residents that AAA's Tow-2-Go service allowing residents to catch a ride with a tow truck driver and transport their vehicles home safely will be offered through 6 a.m. Thursday, January 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AEXjgX9hw4&feature=youtu.be
