The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office hosted the 4th annual multi-agency motors training event at the Walter C. Heinrich Practical Training Center in Lithia on Friday, December 9, 2022.
Multiple agencies attended this training alongside HCSO's motor unit, including the Tampa and Lakeland Police Departments, Flagler, Seminole, and Sarasota County Sheriff’s Offices to name a few along with the Florida Highway Patrol. Overall, 20 different agencies participated in the event that’s meant to not only train motorists but also provide a bonding experience.
While HCSO has mandatory training once a month, some of the other agencies may only get the opportunity to train a few times throughout the year. There were nine skills courses set up along with a qualification course to get the deputies experience in a variety of obstacles.
“The goal is to keep all of our motorists safe,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “If there’s anything I want these deputies to take away from today’s event, it's that there’s always room for improvement. I want each agency to realize this isn’t just for HCSO, this is for everyone. It is just as much a learning opportunity for each agency as it is for our deputies. This is a day to learn what the best practices are and focus on how to execute those practices while on duty."
The motors training day event has grown each year and is made possible through various sponsors including Walmart, PDQ, BANG, and Harley Davidson.
