The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a home invasion that turned deadly on Saturday night.
Around 7:30 pm., deputies were called to a gated apartment complex located on the 12000 block of Citrus Falls Circle for a report of a double shooting involving juveniles.
The residents of the targeted apartment, an adult male and his adult female fiancé, said two individuals kicked in a screened-in area of their back patio and gained entrance into their home through an unlocked door. The suspects, one of whom was armed with a firearm, made demands to the residents. During the encounter, the male resident obtained his legally-owned gun and fired shots, hitting both of the suspects.
Both suspects were transported to St Joseph's Hospital where one was pronounced deceased and the other is currently in critical condition.
When patrol deputies first arrived on scene, they located a suspicious vehicle with two teenagers inside. They conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at the entrance of the apartment complex, and through talking to the driver and passenger, deputies determined the two were likely involved in the home invasion as well.
All four of the male suspects are juveniles between the ages of 16-17 and enrolled at Gaither High School.
Detectives do not believe the home invasion was random. Neither resident of the apartment was injured during the incident.
