Two-State Fugitive Arrested in Dover with Handcuff Key Taped Inside Underwear

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested Jonathan Terry, 42, a convicted felon wanted on fugitive warrants out of Kentucky and Indiana.

Terry was wanted in Kentucky on an active warrant for violating his probation on a possession of a controlled substance charge. He also had a fugitive warrant out of Indiana for failure to appear on a methamphetamine possession charge, and had been wanted there for four years.

On October 1, 2026, at 6:37 p.m., our Aviation Unit and deputies responded to the 15000 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Dover to locate Terry.

The Aviation Unit located Terry hiding under a shed overhang and kept eyes on him from above while deputies on the ground moved in. As deputies approached, they saw Terry reach into his clothing and toss a pair of brass knuckles under a nearby vehicle. Deputies then arrested him.

During a search, deputies discovered a handcuff key taped inside Terry's underwear.

"This convicted felon, wanted in two states, underestimated the skill and determination of teamHCSO," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "He now faces new charges here and must answer for his crimes in Indiana and Kentucky."

In addition to his out-of-state warrants, Terry now faces the following charges:

  • Felon Carrying Concealed Weapon
  • Possession of Concealed Handcuff Key
The investigation is ongoing, and any updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.
