The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred earlier this morning.
At approximately 10:50 a.m. on December 16, 2021, the victim was riding a three-wheeled tricycle in the roadway near the intersection of Gibsonton Drive and Davis Street in Gibsonton. A vehicle driving eastbound on Gibsonton Drive swerved to avoid the victim. At that time, the victim either fell or jumped off the tricycle.
Another car followed behind the first vehicle and swerved left in an attempt to avoid the victim, but was unable to do so. That car struck the victim. The driver immediately stopped the car and called 911. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Medical Examiner's Office (MEO) responded to the scene and took possession of the body. Next of kin has been notified.
Drugs, alcohol, and/or speed are not suspected factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
