Inmate Death Under Investigation

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is conducting an in-custody death investigation. 

On February 25, 2025, at 2:02 p.m., detention deputies found Marshall Nelson, 52, an inmate incarcerated at Falkenburg Road Jail, hanging with a bedsheet from the shower door in an apparent attempt to end his life. Deputies immediately began life-saving efforts with the assistance of jail medical staff before he was transported to the hospital.  

On February 26, 2025, Nelson was pronounced deceased. The Medical Examiner's Office will determine his cause of death. Mr. Nelson's next of kin has been notified. 

Nelson had been at Falkenburg Road Jail since his arrest on January 30, 2025, for 100 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. 

The investigation is ongoing. The Public Affairs Office will release any further updates.
