Update: December 19, 2025, 3:00 p.m.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in Tampa.

On June 29, 2025, at 11:56 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting at the Happy Traveler’s RV Resort. The victim, Talando House, 23, was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital Main, where he was pronounced deceased at 2:27 a.m.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified Malik Rashad Cook, 19, as the suspect in the shooting.

“This suspect may have believed he escaped accountability, but our detectives remained relentless,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “While nothing can undo this family’s loss, we hope this arrest provides some measure of comfort as the case moves forward.”

On December 18, 2025, with assistance from the Pasco Sheriff’s Office, detectives located and arrested Cook. He is currently being held at the Pasco County Jail.

This remains an active investigation. Any further updates will be provided by the Public Affairs Office.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide following a fatal shooting in Thonotosassa.

On June 30, 2025, just after midnight, deputies responded to the 9400 block of East Fowler Avenue after our Communications Center received a call about an altercation that escalated to a shooting.

The adult male victim later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

"What began as a disagreement has ended with someone tragically losing their life," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We are working diligently to figure out exactly what led up to this, but this senseless tragedy should have never happened. Let this be a reminder to always walk away instead of escalating an argument to violence."

The Public Affairs Office will release the name of the deceased when next of kin is notified. This is an active investigation; any updates will come from the Public Affairs office.
