A 24-year-old woman is dead following a single-car crash near Lumsden and Durant roads early Wednesday morning.
At 3:20 a.m., Shanda Cypress was driving a silver, 2019 Infinity GX50 eastbound on Lumsden Road at a high rate of speed. Cypress later struck a concrete construction barrier just east of the intersection of Lithia Pinecrest Road. The vehicle spun out of control and into the shoulder of the road, hitting an excavator, and continuing east across Durant Road. The car then struck a CAT grader, and into an unoccupied Galaxy Fireworks Tent, while still traveling east. It didn't come to a stop until it hit the outer wall of an abandoned car wash, and was found resting upside down on its roof hours later.
Cypress was not wearing a seatblet and died at the scene. A road construction crew notified the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 6:40 a.m., when they arrived to work. Alcohol is suspected in this crash.
This is an ongoing investigation. No other details will be provided at this time.
