Deputies Investigate Deadly Shooting

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that left one person dead and several others injured in Tampa.
On Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at approximately 8:00 p.m., HCSO dispatchers received several 911 calls in reference to gunfire erupting and striking multiple people who were gathered at a basketball court at North 50th Street and Sligh Avenue.
Upon arrival, deputies located eight victims. A 36-year-old male was transported to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries. Two other victims are in critical condition, while five are listed as stable. The victims are between 17 and 36 years of age.
After interviewing witnesses and processing preliminary evidence, detectives believe a group of people traveling in a 2008 silver, 4-door Infiniti, with tinted windows, fired multiple shots as they drove by the crowd. At this time, evidence suggests it was not a random act of violence and the group was targeted. Detectives are working to determine the motive behind the attack.
"We lost a life tonight, due to senseless violence," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Our deputies patrol this area constantly and are working tirelessly to curb the crime and identify the individuals who behave recklessly and have no respect for human life. We aim to restore peace to this community and we will continue to crack down on those who cause harm."
The suspect vehicle was flagged as stolen on November 5, 2020. Anyone who spots it is urged to refrain from making contact and instead call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office immediately at (813) 247-8200.
