Man Arrested After Shooting in Riverview

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for Second-Degree Murder with a Firearm following a road rage incident in Riverview on January 26, 2024.

Jorge Ramirez, 20, was taken into custody in Brevard County by detectives with the assistance of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office on February 20, 2024. He was arrested without incident and will be transported to Orient Road Jail.

Ramirez was originally arrested in this incident and charged with three counts of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.

“Our detectives have worked diligently and left no stone unturned to ensure that this individual was held accountable for this senseless crime.” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Road rage has no place in our community. Our hope is that the victim’s family can find peace knowing that justice will be served.”

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a road rage incident which led to a man's death in Riverview.

On January 16, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m., HCSO deputies responded to the corner of Rose Lane and Baytree Drive in Riverview. When deputies arrived, they discovered Bryan Proenza, 34, with multiple gunshot wounds.

Detectives immediately made contact with the shooter, who was outside his residence down the street from the incident.

While being transported to the hospital, Proenza succumbed to his injuries.

Ramirez was arrested and charged with three counts of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

"Our hearts break for this family who lost a loved one in the face of senseless violence," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “At this time, our detectives are meticulously piecing together the moments that led up to this fatal shooting. While this investigation is active, we urge anyone who might have witnessed the incident to please come forward."
