FDOT Speed: Know Your Limits Program

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a traffic safety subgrant in the amount of $350,000.00 by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the Speed: Know Your Limits Program.  

The purpose of this program is to educate the community about speeding and aggressive driving and conduct high visibility operations in an effort to decrease speeding and aggressive driving related crashes in Hillsborough County.

This grant will reimburse HCSO for overtime for deputies conducting speed and education enforcement activities and civilian support staff directly assisting during street racing operations in the amount of $350,000.00.
 
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 39,508 fatal crashes in 2021.  Approximately 18% of the drivers involved were speeding at the time of the crash and 29% of fatal crashes involved at least one speeding driver (Traffic Safety Facts 2021-Speeding).
 
The contract was executed on November 20, 2024 and the program will run through September 30, 2025.
