HCSO investigating deputy involved shooting in Brandon

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Brandon.

On Monday, April 18, 2022, just before 12:30 pm, an adult male called 911 from the Heaven Sent Daycare Center located at 3003 S Kings Ave after running across the road from the Cypress Trace Apartments. According to the victim, his ex-girlfriend pointed a gun at him as he was exiting the shower at her apartment after she found something in his cellphone that made her irate.

The female suspect, Terrell Green, 39, chased the victim through the apartment complex with a firearm until he jumped a wrought iron fence to get away. Green then got in her vehicle and began driving through the area in search of the victim with her gun in tow.

While deputies were responding to the daycare center to speak with the victim, Green located him from the road and pulled into the parking lot.

Deputy Michael Castelli and Deputy Kristina Gautier approached Green's vehicle as she continued to roll through the parking lot. After spotting a handgun in the vehicle, Deputy Gautier ordered the victim to get behind her. For the safety of the victim, the children and staff inside the daycare and deputies on scene, Deputy Gautier discharged her firearm, striking the suspect inside the vehicle in the upper body. The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to TGH. No deputies or other individuals on scene were injured.

"This suspect had no regard for the safety of our deputies, the victim or the children inside the daycare. In hunting this victim down, her intent was to finish the job," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "I am proud of the work of our deputies and their quick actions that kept dozens of individuals out of harms way."

Green has three prior charges of child neglect with Riviera Beach PD. Green is now facing charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and false imprisonment.

Deputies Castelli and Gautier have no prior use of deadly force incidents. Both have been employed with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office since 2019. Deputy Gautier is being placed on paid administrative leave as the investigation into this incident continues. In accordance with HCSO policy, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
