"Before the Badge" will highlight lives of deputies and other personnel before HCSO careers

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is thrilled to announce the launch of a new series that will highlight the lives of deputies and other personnel prior to their HCSO careers.

"Before the Badge" will showcase the trials and tribulations staff has faced to get to where they are today. It will highlight the many different countries they are from, as well.

"Deputies and civilian staff come from all walks of life and across the globe," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "It is my hope that 'Before the Badge' will serve as another reminder to everyone in Hillsborough County that our staff is just like them, in every way. They have moved from all over the world and faced unbelievable hardships, but persevered to make their dreams to work in law enforcement a reality. I am proud of the many backgrounds #teamHCSO represents. Our diversity is our greatest strength."

The first episode of "Before the Badge" will feature Deputy Toya Adams, who dropped out of high school twice, raised a daughter as a teenager herself and faced multiple instances of abuse while growing up.

"I've seen what other life there is," said Deputy Adams. "Just because I didn't go to college or graduate high school, that doesn't mean I couldn't be something. This changed my life, starting here. These are the people that gave me that chance to be who I am today and to be able to help others."

An episode of "Before the Badge" will be released once every quarter, beginning today.

Any questions or requests regarding the series should be directed to the Public Affairs Office by calling (813) 247-8060, or by emailing PIOCommandCenter@hcso.tampa.fl.us.
