Motorcycle safety at center of FDOT-issued traffic grant

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was awarded $195,000 by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the FY 2022 Triple L: Listen, Learn, and Live Motorcycle Education and Safety Program.

The purpose of the program is to educate motorists in Hillsborough County about motorcycle safety and to conduct high visibility enforcement activities in an effort to decrease motorcycle crashes. The funding will be used to support enforcement activities, distribute educational materials to drivers and to purchase speed measurement devices for program implementation.

The FDOT Highway Safety Matrix-Ranking of Florida counties ranked Hillsborough County second for motorcycle-related serious injuries and fatalities for the last six consecutive years.

The contract was executed on November 24, 2021 and the program will run through September 30, 2022.
