Weekend DUI Operation Results

Sheriff Chad Chronister and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office conducted an operation over the weekend to combat driving under the influence.

The Super Bowl, coupled with the Krewe of Sant’ Yago Illuminated Knight Parade, meant that HCSO's DUI Unit was out proactively patrolling to keep our community safe.

"This weekend is historically one in which our community sees an influx of drivers on the roads," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Our efforts have undoubtedly reduced death, injury, and property damage caused by impaired drivers."

The results from HCSO's weekend efforts are below:
Traffic stops: 224
Citations: 21
Warnings: 203
Other arrests: 1
DUI arrests: 33

"Your Sheriff’s Office has no tolerance for drinking and driving," stated Sheriff Chronister. "It is a completely preventable offense, and those who engage in this behavior should be prepared to face very real consequences."

Notable arrests included:

  • Ivan Hsi Wu, 30: Deputies came into contact with Wu when he was asleep in his car which was stopped on the eastbound off ramp to US Hwy 301 from the Selmon Expressway. When he woke up, he put his vehicle into reverse and ran into a deputy's vehicle. Wu exited the car after his window was smashed by deputies. He refused a breathalyzer.

  • Demarcus Oliver, 31: Oliver was found asleep at the Wawa on the corner of U.S. Highway 301 and Causeway Boulevard in his vehicle after backing into a vehicle. He blew a .16.

Bodyworn camera footage from Deputy Kiss from both arrests is in the YouTube link, with timestamps in the upper right-hand corner of the video.
