FDOT awards HCSO with traffic grant to curb impaired driving

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was awarded $350,000 by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the FY 2022 Operation Trident: Outreach, Education and Enforcement Program.

The purpose of the program is to educate the community on the dangers of impaired driving and to conduct high visibility operations in an effort to decrease impaired driving crashes within Hillsborough County. The funding will be used to support overtime for deputies conducting high visibility enforcement operations as well as breath analysis technicians and transport deputies. 

According to the FDOT FY2022 Highway Safety Matrix, of the top 26 most populous counties in Florida, Hillsborough County ranked number one for serious injuries and fatalities related to impaired driving between 2015 and 2019.

The contract with FDOT was executed on November 24, 2021 and the program will run through September 30, 2022.
