Tampa Bay encouraged to “Glow Blue” to support COVID-19 frontline workers

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with The Laxer Family Foundation to honor and recognize those working on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

When the curve was climbing, Chrisi Laxer of Bern’s Steak House in Tampa started a campaign to radiate the global movement #LightItBlue with a local focus. The initiative #GlowBlueTampaBay brings it home to encourage residents and local businesses to switch out their outdoor lights to blue bulbs. Reaching out to friends and businesses started the grass-roots effort and with the goodness of others, more and more blue lights are illuminating Tampa neighborhoods.

Everyone has been so receptive and the response is a true testament to the Tampa Bay community coming together," said Chrisi Laxer. "One by one, we are and can continue to be a great example supporting our health care workers, first responders, and the many others involved combating these uncertain times. Shine your light to radiate a small thank you to the incredible men and women doing their best to make lives better!

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office joined the initiative by changing the lights to blue outside the Sheriff's Operations Center in Ybor City. Residents or business owners looking to support the initiative locally can also "Glow Blue” with personal services by LED Artistry or by purchasing blue lightbulbs at Complete Lighting located at 3911 W Cypress St in Tampa. Complete Lighting has vowed to protect customer safety by taking phone orders, completing purchases curbside, and offering a delivery option.

How the community comes together during this unprecedented time is how we will be remembered,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “There are so many brave men and women working tirelessly to protect our community. From healthcare worker to first responders, this is an easy way to show our support and thanks for all they do.

Community leaders have put together the following video to encourage everyone to “Glow Blue.”
