The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Pasco County man following a drug investigation in Tampa.
On May 7, 2025, HCSO received an anonymous tip that Khyas Smith, 19, was distributing large amounts of narcotics throughout the Tampa area. Detectives also discovered that Smith was arranging drug deals with the intent to rob the buyers during the transactions.
HCSO’s Real Time Crime Center located Smith’s vehicle as it entered Hillsborough County. Deputies initiated a traffic stop for an illegal window tint, and upon approaching the vehicle, detected the strong odor of narcotics.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed fentanyl, a digital scale coated with white powder residue, and additional drug paraphernalia. Deputies also discovered a GSG Firefly .22 caliber firearm concealed in the center console.
Smith was taken into custody without incident.
Smith faces the following charges:
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Carrying Concealed Firearm
- Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell or Deliver
- Possession of Firearm During Commission of Felony
- Possession of Controlled Substance
“Anyone who chooses to profit by spreading poison in our community is choosing a direct path to Falkenburg Road Jail," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "HCSO remains dedicated in our commitment to remove these threats and ensure our neighborhoods remain safe for every family who calls Hillsborough County home."
This is an active investigation. Any updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.
