The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an inmate.
On July 7, 2024, shortly after 11:30 p.m., detention staff at the Falkenburg Road Jail discovered a 79-year-old inmate unresponsive.
Deputies and medical staff attempted life-saving measures, and the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to transport the inmate to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Preliminary reports indicate that the inmate had recently been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, among other health issues, and was awaiting transfer to the Florida State Hospital.
The inmate's identity will be provided after the next of kin has been notified.
The investigation is ongoing. The Public Affairs Office will release any further updates.
