The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is urging drivers to make safety on our roadways a top priority in 2021.
This week, as part of the nationwide Operation CARE (Crash Awareness and Reduction), HCSO’s Motor Unit deputies targeted aggressive drivers, speeders, and Move Over Law violators on all Hillsborough County highways.
The four-day saturation began on Monday, December 28, 2020, and concluded Thursday, December 31, 2020. Throughout the week, deputies focused their enforcement and education on I-275, I-4, I-75, and the Veterans Expressway.
Issued citations: 241
Written warnings: 393
Sheriff Chad Chronister wants to remind drivers of the importance of the Move Over Law. In Florida, you are required to move over a lane for stopped law enforcement, first responders, and tow trucks. If you are unable to safely move over, you must slow your speed to 20 mph less than the posted speed limit. Not only is it against the law if you fail to move over or slow down, but it’s dangerous and deadly.
