Two arrested in Wimauma homicide investigation

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has located and arrested two suspects in relation to a homicide investigation in Wimauma last Thursday.


Around 7:30 a.m. on November 21, a passing driver located the body of an adult Hispanic male on the side of the roadway near 3500 County Road 579. On Wednesday afternoon, November 27, investigative tips lead deputies to 15-year-old Areli Galindo Figueroa and 18-year-old Yener Morales Perez (booking photo included). The duo is believed to have carjacked the victim at gunpoint and killed him the process. The incident was not a random act, and detectives believe the victim was targeted.

Galindo Figueroa was arrested and charged with principle to first degree murder and armed carjacking. Deputies also arrested Morales Perez on charges of first degree murder with a firearm, armed carjacking and resisting an officer without violence. Morales-Perez was booked at Orient Road Jail. Galindo Figueroa was booked at the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC). No further information is available at this time.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigation a homicide in Wimauama. One person was found deceased on Thursday morning.

Around 7:30 a.m., a passing driver located the body of an adult Hispanic male, believed to be in his early 20s to early 30s, on the side of the roadway near 3500 County Road 579. The man appeared to have suffered an upper body trauma.

At this time the circumstances of his death are unknown, and the victim's identity has not yet been confirmed.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have been driving through the area between midnight to 7 a.m. Thursday, November 21, who saw a vehicle parked on the side of the roadway or anything suspicious to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 813-247-8200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477) to be eligible for a cash reward.
