The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office rescued a driver after her vehicle went off the roadway and into a retention pond.

On April 5, 2026, just after 9 p.m., HCSO’s 911 Center received a call from a woman who had lost control of her vehicle and entered a retention pond at 70th and Hartford Street. The driver became trapped inside as the vehicle began to fill with water.

Deputies arrived within minutes and immediately entered the water. They broke through a window and pulled the driver from the submerged vehicle, bringing her safely to shore. She sustained minor injuries.

“Our deputies did not hesitate when seconds mattered most,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Their quick, decisive actions saved this woman’s life. This is exactly what #teamHCSO is trained to do, step in during critical moments and protect our community.”

HCSO’s Dive Team later removed the vehicle from the pond.
