The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office 911 Dispatch Center is enhancing how emergency calls are received, managed, and supported through Prepared, an AI-enhanced platform designed to improve call-taking efficiency, dispatcher awareness, and overall response coordination without replacing current 911 operations.
Through Prepared, callers can securely share live video or photos with dispatchers. This information can be viewed in real time, documented, and shared directly with deputies responding to the scene. Media used as evidence follows established public records procedures.
"Prepared strengthens the connection between our community and the deputies responding to help," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "That real-time visibility helps them make informed decisions in critical moments, improving outcomes for those in need while adding an important layer of safety for our deputies as they arrive on scene."
Emergency calls are also transcribed instantly and are supported by AI-generated summaries, helping personnel quickly identify critical details and enhancing training and review efforts. Prepared also expands language access through automatic language detection and AI-assisted Spanish translation.
The system enables one-to-one text messaging with callers using pre-approved messages, including links to reporting tools, resources during natural disasters, and photo requests for active investigations.
"When someone calls 911, they are often experiencing one of the worst moments of their life. Our responsibility is to meet that moment with clarity, speed, and precision," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is committed to evolving with the times, and emerging technology is a critical part of how we continue to serve our community.”
The implementation of Prepared reflects HCSO's continued focus on responsible technology that strengthens emergency communications and supports faster, more informed responses when every second matters.
