Teen Arrested After Social Media Threat

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Brandon High School student for posting a threatening message on social media.

On January 22, 2026, School Resource Deputies responded to the school after receiving a tip that Hassan Yousef, 15, posted to his social media that he wanted to commit Columbine Part Two.

Investigators interviewed Yousef, who admitted to creating and posting the message from his cellphone. He said that the post was intended as "dark humor."

After a search, deputies found no weapons with the student or on school property.

"Any kind of threat of violence is unacceptable and will not be tolerated within our schools," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We want young people to understand that posts like this have serious consequences and will always be investigated. We encourage students to think before they post and to report anything that raises concern."

Yousef was arrested and is charged with:

  • Written or Electronic Threat to Conduct a Mass Shooting or Act of Terrorism
  • Unlawful Use of Two-Way Communication Device

If you see someone making threats on social media, you can create a tip on FortifyFL or contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
