ORIGINIAL: May 27, 2024:

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has been out in full force and has made substantial DUI and BUI arrests over Memorial Day Weekend.

Over the weekend, HCSO's DUI Unit conducted a joint agency operation with Florida Highway Patrol, the Tampa Police Department, and the Plant City Police Department from May 25, 2024, through May 27, 2024.

During patrol efforts, HCSO conducted 367 traffic stops, resulting in 34 citations and 333 warnings issued to motorists.

Additionally, deputies arrested 38 individuals for driving under the influence.

A notable arrest occurred on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at 4:28 p.m., when DUI deputies observed a wrong-way driver heading South on North 50th Street in Tampa. Deputies pulled over the driver and arrested Jose Eyngonesz Castillo, 58, and charged him with Driving Under the Influence and Refusal to Submit to Testing.

Our Marine Unit also patrolled over the weekend and conducted 17 vessel stops, resulting in 26 written warnings and ten citations. Deputies also made two boating under the influence arrests.

"Our deputies have made substantial DUI and BUI arrests over Memorial Day weekend, demonstrating our commitment to keeping Hillsborough County safe,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "It's never okay to drink and drive, and if you do, be assured that we will catch you, and you will face the consequences. We are here to protect our citizens and ensure everyone can enjoy the holiday responsibly and safely."

Our deputies will continue their efforts throughout Monday to deter reckless behavior on our roadways and waterways.
