To make the holidays special for children who won’t get to spend Christmas at home with their families, Sheriff Chad Chronister and deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard are giving away more than 100 toys to pediatric patients at Tampa General Hospital on Friday, December 6.

The Sheriff’s Honor Guard is a team of dedicated deputies who take part in many ceremonies throughout the year. The team is most often called upon to present the colors at various events and memorial services throughout Florida. Toys being delivered to the hospital were donated by members of the HCSO Honor Guard and other employees of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

At 2 p.m. today, Sheriff Chronister and the Honor Guard will accompany Santa and some of his elves traveling room-to-room throughout the hospital to visit sick children and give them special Christmas presents.

“We’re not just delivering toys, we’re delivering hope. These children look up to deputies and see them as heroes,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “It’s an indescribable feeling to walk into a child’s hospital room and see their faces light up when they lock eyes with Santa or a deputy. We love helping create that special moment each year."

Media outlets are invited to attend today's toy giveaway. Limited parking will be available at the loading dock off to the side of the hospital's main entrance. Additional parking is available in the TGH parking garage. Anyone planning to attend must RSVP with the HCSO Public Affairs Office by email piocommandcenter@hcso.tampa.fl.us

Gifts being given to children at Tampa General Hospital on Friday include bicycles, games and various toys for all age groups.

The HCSO Honor Guard typically buys toys with their own money, but this year they hosted a toy drive throughout the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Employees donated more than 100 toys to sick children at TGH.
