The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a ninth-grade student at Spoto High School for bringing a weapon onto school grounds.
On May 15, 2025, school administrators alerted the School Resource Deputy following a verbal altercation between Di'Naste Gibson, 15, and a male classmate. During the exchange, which occurred in front of an adult witness, Gibson reportedly told the other student, “We are not going to fight here, let’s go to the park,” and, “I’m going to kill you.”
An administrative search of Gibson’s belongings revealed a serrated pocket knife. During an interview with the School Resource Deputy, Gibson admitted to displaying the knife during the altercation.
Gibson was taken into custody and charged with one count of Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds. She has no prior criminal history.
“Parents, please take the time to speak with your children about the serious consequences of bringing any kind of weapon to school,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “A classroom should be a place for learning and growth, not fear. One poor decision can change a young life forever, and it’s our responsibility—as a community and as parents—to help prevent that.”
Any further information will be released by the Public Affairs Office.
