The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested 27-year-old Devin Mendez for child abuse.
Mendez admitted to all the following incidents in an interview with deputies. The incidents occurred at a confidential location during a two week period of time.
Devin Mendez told deputies he intentionally pushed the 3-year-old victim, causing the victim to fall forward onto the face. The victim sustained a laceration to the lip, a contusion to the forehead and bruising to the face. The victim also sustained a concussion and broken wrist from the fall. The victim lost consciousness for approximately 15 minutes. The victim woke up dizzy and vomited.
During another incident, Mendez admitted to grabbing the victim around the neck for approximately 10 seconds -- making it difficult for the child to breathe -- in an attempt to stop the victim from crying. The victim sustained bruising to the neck and had Petechiae in the left eye
On another occasion, Mendez hit the victim, causing the child to fall forward. Mendez then held the victim while he hit the child two more times. From this incident, the victim sustained several bruises all over the body.
Mendez failed to obtain medical attention after any of the incidents and told the victim's mother the victim fell each time she sustained a new injury.
Mendez is currently being held at Orient Road Jail.
