On Saturday, June 20, 2026, an HCSO deputy was involved in a crash with a pedestrian, and the pedestrian has since died from his injuries.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. in the area of West Hillsborough Avenue and Ambassador Drive.
The deputy was operating an unmarked 2024 Chevrolet Silverado while traveling eastbound in the center lane of West Hillsborough Ave when contact was made with a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk. The deputy immediately pulled over and rendered aid until EMS could arrive.
The pedestrian, Dudane Anderson III, 27, was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital – Main, but despite the medical staff's attempts to treat his injuries, he was pronounced deceased on June 21, 2026, at approximately 12:45 p.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol will now assume the investigation.

Deputy Jonathan Kennon, 35, was driving the HCSO vehicle at the time of the crash. Deputy Kennon has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 8 years and has no disciplinary or internal affairs history, to include crashes.
Deputy Kennon is currently on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
